The BIHER library was first established in the year 1984. Initially, the library offered books and materials to significant branches of engineering, such as Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Science. Over the years the library has grown tremendously in various sects and domains and can seat up to 600 students. The current Library benefits Students, Faculty, and Research Scholars and is accessible at their convenience.
The library offers diverse collections and also has both traditional and IT-based services for the user community. The students can access the section of their preference for various purposes.
The library is open/ accessible to all the students. The students can borrow books of their preferences at their convenience. It houses a large collection of 1,81,936 books, journals, back volumes, and other reference materials, offering knowledge to several branches of Engineering, Science, and Technology.
A chamber to acquire knowledge through traditional learning methods
The Reference section incorporates some of the rare and interesting books in the form of encyclopaedias, dictionaries, handbooks, data books, and many more. It holds some 2500 such documents and other exceptional books and documents.
The library is renowned for holding more than 58000 prescribed reference books on Engineering and Technology in this section.
The circulation division is the prime section in the library responsible for the enrolment of students, staff, and non-staff members for the library. This section is also responsible for issuing and return of the books and no-due certificates to the students. The Bharath University library is automated with the Autolib library management system. The library uses a conventional method of barcodes for scanning and registering the books.
The journal division is known for its national and international subscriptions of journals. The journal articles are archived and catalogued based on various categories from the year 1984. Apart from the regular peer journals, the library also entitles prominent magazines, career-oriented journals along popular newspapers. Back papers dating as old as 1983 are also documented in this section.
This cell is having a collection of books on objective type for all engineering disciplines like GRE, TOFEL, GMAT, TNPSC, GATE , IELTS, CAT, Civil Service Examinations, UPSC, Technical Communication and carrier oriented books. In addition to this, the cell also stacks books on question banks and general knowledge.
Bookbank
About 3610 books related to different disciplines of engineering and technology are available subject wise for the use of the SC/ST students funded by the SC/ST welfare department (Central Government). The books are issued only to the SC/ST Students and they are permitted to keep be books till the end of the semester.
Digital Library
A separate division is functioning with 50 computer systems for students and faculty members for the purpose of harnessing e – resources like e – journals and e – books. The average no of such users per month is 960. The Wi – Fi connectivity and intranet facility are provided to the users.

Library Automation
The library is automated with a library software known as “AUTOLIB”, which functions with a server and 4 nodes. The databases of books and journals contain around 1,79,336 records.

Audio Visual Room
The audio visual room caters to 50 users with educational CD’s, Audio Cassettes and NPTEL Videos. The students are encouraged to make use of this facility whenever they are free.
